February – The Study of Buildings!
For the
next five weeks, students will learn about buildings. As we investigate this topic, we will work
together to find the answers to our theme questions. Some of the questions include: What do
buildings in our neighborhood and other places look like? Who builds buildings?
What are buildings made of?
Some of the
books we will be reading this week are:
• The Three Little Pigs by Patricia Seibert
• Changes, Changes by Pat Hutchins
Lessons and activities for the
theme:
Math – Students will have
connecting blocks to create and measure structures.
Art – Children will have access
to magazines with pictures of buildings and scissors to make collages.
Blocks – Students will be able to create
numerous types of buildings with different blocks.
Pretend Play– Students will have
construction worker clothing and props that reflect neighborhood buildings.

observe sample building materials, such as, brick, wood, steel, and cinder
