Week of November 2nd!

I would like to give a HUGE Thank You to all the parents that donated to the classroom Halloween Party!  The party was a huge success and the children had quite a lot of fun.  Thank you all so much for your generosity!
I will be working on getting you all pictures of the festivities this week.

November Theme – Clothes

For the next two weeks, students will learn about clothes.  We will be discussing how to put on and take off clothes, comparing clothes, and adding clothing details to drawings.

Some of the books we will be reading are:

Something from Nothing by Phoebe Gilman
Abuela’s Weave by Omar S. Casteneda
Button, Button, Who’s Got the Button? by Hajo Bucken
A Pocket for Corduroy by Don Freeman


Lessons and activities for the week:

Art – Children will have strips of paper for children to weave in and out of paper or cardboard.
Math – Students will be able to sort buttons by size.
Pretend Play – Students will have props for setting up a clothing store.
Writing - Students will be able to draw a picture of their favorite articles of clothing. 
Blocks –  Students will be able to use blocks to ‘iron’ block or ‘shine’ shoes.

Week of October 26th!

October Theme – Clothes
For the next three weeks, students will learn about clothes.  We will be discussing how to put on and take off clothes, comparing clothes, and adding clothing details to drawings.

The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch
The Girl Who Wore Too Much by Margaret Read MacDonald


Lessons and activities for the week:

Art – Children will have materials for designing clothing.
Math – Students will be able to sort buttons by shape.
Pretend Play – Students will have multiple clothing sets of different cultures to dress dolls and themselves.
Writing - Students will be able to draw a picture of their favorite articles of clothing. 
Blocks –  Students will be able to use blocks to 'iron' scarves or 'shine' their shoes. 


Reminders:
A 20-minute informational parent-meeting will he held this Wednesday, October 28th at 8:30am.  The meeting will be held in the parent conference room on the first floor.  We will briefly discuss the curriculum.
Parents are welcomed to come to our Halloween Parade on Friday, October 30th. Students may come to school dressed in their Halloween costumes!
During drop off time in the mornings, it is school policy that parents are to remain outside of the classroom.

Week of October 19th

October Theme – Clothes

For the next four weeks, students will learn about clothes.  We will be discussing how to put on and take off clothes, comparing clothes, and adding clothing details to drawings.

Pretend Play Students will have laundry baskets and multiple clothing sets to dress dolls and themselves.
Writing - Students will be able to draw a picture of their favorite articles of clothing. 
Blocks –  Students will be able to use blocks to 'iron' scarves or 'shine' their shoes. 

Reminders:

  Picture day is Friday October 23rd. Students may wear dress up clothes or their school uniform for picture day. Please return picture money envelopes.

Week of October 13th!

October Theme – Clothes

For the next five weeks, students will learn about clothes.  We will be discussing how to put on and take off clothes, comparing clothes, and adding clothing details to their drawings.

Art – Children will have clothing of different sizes and features.
Math – Students will use cubes to measure different articles of clothes.
Pretend Play– Students will have multiple clothing sets to dress dolls and themselves.
Library – Books on clothing or props from Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
Blocks – Students will have scarves in the block area to carry and cover blocks.

Reminders:

School is closed on Monday, October 12th.
Hispanic Heritage Month Presentation on Wednesday, October 14th at 9:00 a.m.
Halloween Parade on Friday, October 30th. Students may come to school dressed in their Halloween costumes!
During drop off time in the mornings, it is school policy that parents are to remain outside of the classroom.
Please return sleeping mats every Monday.
