Supply List for the 2018 - 2019 School Year!

Hello Parents!
I am so excited to be teaching your little ones this year!  I would love to take this time to introduce myself.  My Name is Kelly McGarry.  I have been lucky enough to work with preschool aged children for the past eight years.  I am currently enrolled at Hunter College, pursuing a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education.  
My mission is to provide every student with a quality pre-kindergarten experience.  I wish to create a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment, which fosters individual growth and independence.
I can’t wait to meet you all!



I am providing the supply list for the 2017-2018 school year.

Required:
At least one (1) change of clothes (including shirt, pants, underwear, socks, and shoes).
Three (3) packs of white copy paper

Recommended:
Three (3) Packages of Baby / Handi Wipes
Two (2) Boxes of Tissues 
Two (2) Bottles of Hand Sanitizer

Week of June 25th!

End of Year Reminders



  • Pre-K 4 end of year celebration is on Monday, June 25th.  The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. in the gymnasium.  
  • Students are asked to arrive to the classroom at 9:45 a.m.  
  • The last day of school is Tuesday, June 26th. Dismissal on Tuesday is at 1:00 p.m.  There is no after-school this week.

Week of June 18th!

Theme for the Unit:
Transformation!


Enduring understandings that the student should have by the end of the unit:

  • Many things around me change.
  • There are many ways objects can change. 
  • There are many kinds of changes in nature. 
  • Some things about me change and some things stay the same. 



Lessons and activities for the week:

Blocks- Students are invited to measure each other with blocks.

Pretend Play- Pretend Play will continue to be a baby nursery.  Students will pretend to care for babies by feeding, cleaning, and changing the baby dolls provided.  

Art- Students are invited to create faces that express different emotions on paper plates.

Science- Students will be able to make predictions about what will happen when you mix vinegar and baking soda.

Math- Plastic cups will be added to the math center.  Students are invited to build a tower with the cups.

Library- Students are invited to read books about our theme, transformation.

Writing-  Based on the weekly readings, students will be encouraged to write a story about something or someone who experiences a change.

Sensory- Sand and water, or play-doh.




Some of the books we will read this week are:

  • Joseph Had a Little Overcoat by Simms Taback
  • The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn




Reminders / Notices:

  • Thursday, June 21st is the last day of after school.
  • School will be closed on Friday, June 22nd.
  • Pre-K For All End of Year Celebration will be on Monday, June 25th at 10 a.m.  Students are asked to be in school at 9:45 a.m.

Week of June 4th!

Theme for the Unit:
Babies!


Enduring understandings that the student should have by the end of the unit:
  • Human babies need special food and care.
  • Animal babies need special food and care.
  • There are similarities and differences in the ways babies are cared for.
  • All babies grow.


Lessons and activities for the week:

Blocks- Students are invited to use blocks to create the animal babies and habitats that they are investigating.

Pretend Play- Pretend Play will be turned into a baby nursery.  Students will pretend to care for babies by feeding, cleaning, and changing the baby dolls provided.

Art- Students are invited to create their own baby portraits with a variety of art materials.

Science- Students will be able to play a matching game, matching the adult animal to its offspring.

Math- Cutouts of babies of various lengths will be added to the math center.  Students will be able to measure each baby and tell which is longest and shortest.

Library- Students are invited to read books about our theme, babies.

Writing- Cards will be supplied with pictures of animal babies as well as their names. They will be placed in a bin for children to reference as they create their own animal baby book.  

Sensory- Sand and water, or play-doh.




Some of the books we will read this week are:

  •  Over in the Meadow by Ezra Jack Keats
  • Owl Babies by Martin Waddell
