Week of June 26th!

Theme for the Unit:
Transformation!


Enduring understandings that the student should have by the end of the unit:

  • Many things around me change.
  • There are many ways objects can change. 
  • There are many kinds of changes in nature. 
  • Some things about me change and some things stay the same. 



Lessons and activities for the week:

Blocks- Students are invited to measure each other with blocks.

Pretend Play- Props will be provided for students to pretend they are adults.Students will discuss how they change as they grow.

Art- Students are invited to create faces that express different emotions on paper plates.

Science- Students will be able to make predictions about what will happen when you mix vinegar and baking soda.

Math- Plastic cups will be added to the math center.  Students are invited to build a tower with the cups.

Library- Students are invited to read books about our theme, transformation.

Writing/Technology-  Weekly learning games on iPads are provided.  

Sensory- Sand and water, or play-doh.




Some of the books we will read this week are:

  • Joseph had a Little Overcoat by Simms Taback
  • The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn 



Recommended Home School Connection:

  •  Families are asked to visit or walk past the school your child will be attending in the fall and discuss what looks different and the same about their current school and their new school. If possible, families can visit the Kindergarten classroom that their child will attend. 



Reminders / Notices:
  •         The last FULL day of school will be on Monday, June 26th. 
  •  The Pre-K For All Moving-Up ceremony will be on Tuesday, June 27th, at 10:00 a.m.  Parents are asked to bring in students at 9:45 a.m.
  •      Each student is permitted up to three (3) guests for the moving up ceremony.
  • Report Cards will be distributed on Wednesday, June 28th.
  • Dismissal is 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28th.

  • Math Newsletter
  •  Families are asked to visit a park on your way home or look at trees in your neighborhood. What has changed about the trees since winter? If possible, draw a picture of what the tree looked like in the winter and what it looks like now that it is spring and compare the two.

Week of June 5th!

Theme for the Unit:
Babies!


Enduring understandings that the student should have by the end of the unit:
  • Human babies need special food and care.
  • Animal babies need special food and care.
  • There are similarities and differences in the ways babies are cared for.
  • All babies grow.


Lessons and activities for the week:

Blocks- Students are invited to use blocks to create a nursery or place to care for a baby. 

Pretend Play- Pretend Play will be turned into a baby nursery.  Students will pretend to care for babies by feeding, cleaning, and changing the baby dolls provided.

Art- Students are invited to create their own baby portraits with a variety of art materials.

Science- Students will be able to play a matching game, matching the adult animal to its offspring.

Math- Cutouts of babies of various lengths will be added to the math center.  Students will be able to measure each baby and tell which is longest and shortest.

Library- Students are invited to read books about our theme, babies.

Writing/Technology- Weekly learning games on iPads are provided.  

Sensory- Sand and water, or play-doh.




Some of the books we will read this week are:

  •  When I Was Little: A Four- Year-Olds Memoir of her Youth by Jamie Lee Curtis 
  • Peter’s Chair by Ezra Jack Keats 


Recommended Home School Connection:

  • Math Newsletter
  •  Families are asked to talk about important milestones in your child’s life and create a timeline that reflects a few of these experiences. Think of two to four noteworthy events in your child’s past such as when they were born, took his/her first steps, or an important family event such as a new home or sibling, etc. You can draw or include pictures on the timeline!
