February – The Study of Buildings!
For the next four weeks, students will learn about
buildings. As we investigate this topic,
we will work together to find the answers to our theme questions. Some of the questions include: What do
buildings in our neighborhood and other places look like? Who builds buildings?
What are buildings made of?
Some of the books we will be reading this week are:
- A Chair for My Mother by Vera B. Williams
- House, Sweet House by Judith Bauer Stamper
- Buildings, Buildings, Buildings by Judith Bauer Stamper
Lessons and activities for the theme:
Math – Students will have connecting blocks to create
and measure structures.
Art – Children will have access to magazines with
pictures of buildings and scissors to make collages or play-doh to build their own buildings.
Blocks – Students will be able to create numerous types of
buildings with different blocks.
Pretend Play– Students will have construction worker clothing and
props that reflect neighborhood buildings.
