Weekly Foundational Read-Aloud:
An Orange in January by Dianna Hutts  Aston

The YouTube Link to the weekly Read-Aloud is located: HERE

Questions to ask your child in response to the read-aloud:

  • How did you think the other children felt when he shared the orange with them?
  • The illustrator of this book, Julie Maren, used curly lines to show the wind. Why do you think she did that? How would you show wind in a picture?

Learn at Home activity for today:

Thursday:

Faces and Feelings
Look at pictures of people in magazines or books together. Invite your child to look carefully at the expressions on the people’s faces. Ask your child to share why they think the person might feel that way, if they ever feel that way themselves, and when. After discussing the expressions, you and your child may want to make the same expressions yourselves. Consider doing this activity near a mirror so children can see the expressions they create.

Open ended questions:
  • What do you notice about ____?
  • I notice that you ____. How did you do that?
  • What will you try next? Why?
  • I wonder what would happen if ___?

Continued Weekly Activity

Watch the video, Parts of a Plant, and have your child draw a picture with the different parts of a plant.  They can also practice the plant movements mentioned in the song! Please email the writing / drawings to MsMcGarryCOVID19@gmail.com

Thank you to all the students and parents that have sent me pictures of the children's work!  I will be adding more pictures as they come in!
