Week of January 11th!

January – The Study of Balls!

For the next five weeks, students will learn about balls.  As we investigate this topic, we will work together to find the answers to our theme questions.  Some of the questions include: Do all balls bounce?, What makes balls move?, Who uses balls?, and What are balls made of?

Some of the books we will be reading this week are:

•       The Little Red Hen by Bonnie Dobkin

•       The Three Billy Goats Gruff by Bonnie Dobkin

•       Bounce by Doreen Cronin

•       Have a Ball by Nancy Noel Williams

Lessons and activities for the theme:

Math – Students will be able to sort and match different sizes and types of balls.

Art – Children will be able to draw balls or construct a sphere out of paper.

Blocks – Students will have balls of various sizes and be able to construct ramps to roll the balls.

Pretend Play – Students will have balls added to pretend play to 'play ball' with he dolls and each other. 

Writing- Students will be able to draw a picture of what they learned from the classroom read-aloud regarding balls.  

Science - Students will be able to construct ramps of different heights to see how fast a ball will roll.

Reminders:

•       School will be closed Monday, January 18^th, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

•       There will be a Parent Workshop on Friday, January 22^nd.

•       School will be closed Friday, January 29^th, for Teacher Workshop Day.

•       February 9^th, 2016 is our Valentine’s Day Show!  The show will take place in the gymnasium at 9 a.m.

Week of January 4th!

Welcome Back!

Happy New Year!!!  I hope everyone had a peaceful and relaxing break.  School resumes this Monday, January 4th!

January – The Study of Balls!

Reminders:

•       On Thursday January 7, there will be a PreK Parent Workshop regarding ‘Positive Parenting’.  Ms. Nancy Dubin MSW from Thera-Care will be doing the presentation in the Parent Conference Room.  Please let me know if you are coming so that appropriate seating may be arranged.

•       This Friday January 8^th, UPK classes will be dismissed at 3:00.

Week of December 14th!

I Hope everyone has a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season.  Thank you for an amazing 2015!

December Theme – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

For the next week, students will be learning about Recycling.  We will be discussing the different items that people recycle, what happens to our trash, and why we recycle.

Some of the books we will be reading are:

•Peter’s Chair by Ezra Jack Keats

•I Stink! By Kate and Jim McMullan

•The Adventures of Gary & Harry by Lisa Matsumoto

•Something from Nothing by Phoebe Gilman

•Dinosaur Woods by George McClements

Lessons and activities for the theme: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Art – Children will have collage materials such as paper scraps, tinfoil bits, old magazines, newspapers, and cardboard pieces.

Blocks – Students will have paper bags of various sizes and toy garbage trucks.

Pretend Play – Students will transform pretend play into a recycling center.

Writing - Students will be able to draw a picture of what they learned from the classroom read-aloud regarding recycling. 

Library - Students will have books about trash, garbage, and recycling.

Reminders:

•Tuesday, December 15th, is our Holiday Show at 9:00 a.m.! Parents are welcome to attend the show

•Friday, December 18th, is Pre-K 4’s Holiday Party!  We will be having a pizza party and dancing the day away!  If you would like to donate a few dollars to the party, it would be GREATLY appreciated.

•School will be closed from December 21st to January 4th.

Thanksgiving Show!!!

Tomorrow, November 24th, OLQM will celebrate Thanksgiving by having a small concert performed by the PRE-Ks and grades 5-8.  

All are welcome to celebrate with us and eat some delicious food!

We are kindly asking students, teachers, staff, and families to bring in a dish to share with each other after the performance.  All types of foods are accepted!
