Week of November 23rd!

November Theme – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! 

For the next four weeks, students will be learning about Recycling.  We will be discussing the different items that people recycle, what happens to our trash, and why we recycle.

Some of the books we will be reading this week are:

• What Happens to our Trash by D.J. Ward

• Something From Nothing by Phoebe Gilman
• I’m Thankful Each Day by P.K. Hallinan
• I Stink! By Kate and Jim McMullan



Lessons and activities for the theme: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle 


Art – Children will have collage materials such as paper scraps, tinfoil bits, old magazines, newspapers, and cardboard pieces.
Blocks – Students will have empty boxes of various sizes and toy garbage trucks.
Pretend Play – Students will transform pretend play into a recycling center.
Writing - Students will be able to draw a picture of what they learned from the classroom read-aloud regarding recycling. 
Library - Students will have books about trash, garbage, and recycling.



Reminders:

Tuesday, November 24th, is the Thanksgiving show.  The students will be performing a song on stage in the gym. The show will start at 9:00 a.m.

The school is having a canned food drive.  Donations are greatly appreciated!

School will be closed this Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving.

Week of November 16th!

Reminders:

  •     Parent – Teacher Conferences are this Friday, November 20th in the classroom.  Dismissal is at 12:00 p.m.
  •      Due to state regulation, all students in Pre-K must be vaccinated with the flu shot before January 1st.

Family Partnerships: 

     We would like to ask families to contribute to our classroom "junk collection" by bringing in junk from home—items that typically get thrown away, e.g., paper towel rolls, old magazines, plastic bottles, cartons, and broken things. Please check all items and make sure they’re safe; rinse containers and remove items with sharp edges. Thanks so much!

Week of November 9th!

November Theme – Clothes

For the next week, students will learn about clothes.  We will be discussing how to put on and take off clothes, comparing clothes, and adding clothing details to drawings.

The Girl Who Wore Too Much by Margaret Read MacDonald

Lessons and activities for the week:

Art – Children will have butcher paper, paint, fabric scraps, glue, and scissors, and markers.
Math – Students will be able to sort buttons by size.
Pretend Play – Students will have work clothes and costumes.
Writing - Students will be able to draw a picture of their favorite articles of clothing. 
Blocks –  Students will be able to use blocks to ‘iron’ block or ‘shine’ shoes.

This Wednesday, November 11th, school is closed in honor of Veteran's Day.
